Virginia
Pierrepont

Virginia Crawford Pierrepont has been a professional artist for twenty years and an artist al her life. She graduated in 1981 from the Rhode Island School of Design, receiving a BFA in Painting and Printmaking. In the summer of 1986, Virginia attended advanced art classes at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Skowhegan, Me. There she studied designing and painting fresco murals. In the fall of 1986 she attended a two-week painting and design workshop at Royal College of Art, Kensington Gore, London. During the period from 1982-1986, Virginia worked freelance for Barlow Designs, Ducks Unlimited, and Davol Marketing in Product Design and “Gift Show” sales.

In the winter of 1986 she began a one-year evening study and apprentice program with the Ina Marx Finishing School of Great Neck, Long Island. When Virginia returned to New York City, She joined MOCCA Designs, with the artist/designer Lucretia Moroni. They fabricated and painted Italian silkscreened wallpapers, trompe l”oeil finishes with marbleizing. In 1988 Virginia moved to Canal Street and founded Virginia Designs. There she created and painted floor cloths, trompe l”oeil screens, murals, painted finishes in corporate offices, private homes and show houses.

Throughout the many years in Virginia Designs, Virginia has worked closely with many top designers that included Martha Stewart, Home Styles and Trends: Show house, Mario Buatta, Southampton Show house, Josi Meskin Associates; Koehli Lodge, Hawaii and Bret Beldock Designs and Interiors. Her work has appeared in numerous books, magazines and show houses. While raising a family of five children Virginia taught herself Photography, Computer Design and CS3 Adobe Digital Design and Printing. Creating and teaching children helped her to grasp a strong understanding of photography, film and digital animation.

In 2005 she received an invitation to visit the Cultural Pablo de la Torriente Bay, Havana, Cuba. This wonderful experience gave Virginia the opportunity to photograph a crumbling city of historic value, and capture the charm of its colorful culture and people. She works with Adobe Creative Suite 3 and Aperture to manage and digitally touch up photos and painting files. When printing she uses Epson Archival Papers and inks often on a Velvet Fine Finish.

Virginia maintains a studio at 49 Glen Head Rd., Glen Head, NY, where she actively paints Portraits and prints her Digital Photography. During the summer months she moves outdoors to practice Plain Air landscape painting around Long Island or in the Hudson Valley Region. She is still married with five teenagers living on the North Shore.

Virginia Pierrepont enjoys the benefits of an intuitive gift for making art, which has been the guiding passion of her life experience. Her sense of the visual infuses everything she does; making her a natural in the areas of design; décor, fashion and any other mode of expression where organizing colors and forms are a factor. She can approach any subject or stylistic area with ease, assimilating the known and transforming it with her own vision. She renders traditional English Botanicals with the verve of Dufy or Matisse, the portrait approach of a Sergeant with the contemporary sensibility of super realism, and the idiom of photography and montage with her own Surreal wit and whimsy…in short, an artist with a wide ranging interests and a superb freedom of technique.
